What size monogram should I request?

Pillow shams: for shams that are not ready made, up to a 3 Letter 11” Monogram can be selected.  If the pillow sham is already constructed, it is considered “Customer’s Own Merchandise,” or COM, and the embroidery size is restricted by the type of opening in the back.  After receiving an individual COM, we will contact you to advise you of the maximum or recommended size based on that item.

Duvet or coverlet: for uncut yardage, up to a 3 Letter 11” Monogram or a Monogram with flanking left and right 7” to 8” embellishments.  If the duvet or coverlet is already constructed or ready made, it is considered “Customer’s Own Merchandise,”  or COM, and the embroidery size is restricted by the type of opening in the back for a duvet.  After receiving an individual COM, we will contact you to advise you of the maximum or recommended size based on that item.  Placement can either be in the center or on one end for a fold-down or folded at the foot of a bed.

Throw pillows: we base this on the finished height of the pillow.  For an average 20” pillow, up to a 7” 3 letter Monogram makes a nice presentation.  Small neckroll pillows usually take a 3” 3 Letter Monogram.  Personalization, i.e. words, names, or phrases, can be up to 18” from left to right and lettering height will be sized accordingly.  If the pillow is already constructed, it is considered “Customer’s Own Merchandise,” or COM, and the embroidery size is restricted by the type of opening in the back.  After receiving an individual COM, we will contact you to advise you of the maximum or recommended size based on that item.

Window valance, cornice, or headboard: we recommend a 1 or 3 Letter up to 11” Monogram or a 5” Upper Case height Personalization word.

Upholstery:  for chair backs, insets, or cushion embroidery, the size will be based on the customer’s workroom’s specifications for the available dimensions.

Dining chair seats:  usually up to a 7” tall embroidery design or 1 to 3 Letter Monogram for a typical dining removable chair seat.

Stools:  bar stool seats and footstools can be embroidered based on the dimensions of the seat.

Table runners, table toppers, dinner napkins:  embroidery is scaled according to finished size and is available as a center placement or on a 45 degree corner angle.

Throws or stadium blankets:  clients usually select a 1 or 3 Letter Monogram or design on a 45 degree angle in the corner or across one end.

What size should I order an embellishment?

Generally, if you are using a pair of embellishments on either side of the monogram, we base the proportion on the tallest letter in the monogram.  The embellishments should be sized from half as large as the tallest letter, to ½“ smaller than the largest letter.  As an example, if the largest letter is 5” in the monogram, the smallest size of the embellishment should be is 2.5”, and the largest it should be is 4.5”.  This is a guideline, not a rule, and we can follow your specifications.

Do I need to order embellishments by the pair?

What is the care instruction for embroidery?

We use commercial rayon and polyester threads that are colorfast and durable.  Follow your fabric manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations and with the following extra care:

HOME LAUNDERING

All embroidered garments should be washed with a mild detergent.

Do not use chlorine bleach or optical brightening agents.

If bleach is required for washing, use non-chlorine bleach in accordance with product instructions .

Machine wash cold water.

Delicate wash cycle .

If color residue appears in water, rinse first in lukewarm water and then cold several times until rinse water becomes clear.

Remove promptly after wash cycle completion.

Never leave any piece of embroidered clothing soaking or in water or lying in a pile when wet.

Upon completion of washing cycle place articles immediately in dryer, use normal setting. (For best results, we recommend preheating the dryer.)

Do not wring out the embroidered articles.

Do not rub stained embroidery.

DRY CLEANING

Embroidery may be dry cleaned, however, extreme care should be exercised when dry cleaning. Special care must be taken when dark shades are dry cleaned. Avoid use of pre-spotting agents.

INDUSTRIAL LAUNDERING

Garments can be industrially laundered when proper procedures are followed as outlined by the International Fabricare Institute. Please call or fax for details. Embroidery may be dry cleaned, however, extreme care should be exercised when dry cleaning. Special care must be taken when dark shades are dry cleaned. Avoid use of pre-spotting agents.

IRONING

Embroidered fabrics should always be ironed on the reverse side.

It is recommended to iron embroidery between two pieces of cloth.

It is not recommended to wet embroidery prior to ironing or to use a steam iron.

Note: Normally the care label instructions pertain to the garment, not the embroidery. Special care should be taken when laundering embroidered garments.

Since the conditions of use, washing, pressing and cleaning, etc. vary in use of yarns and threads, the purchaser should assure himself by preliminary tests that the dye fastness of the yarn or thread is 100% colorfast to crocking or washing under all conditions. We cannot be responsible for any consequential damages since the value of the thread is so disproportionate to the value of the goods into which it is stitched.

I’m getting married and would like a wedding monogram.  How do I select the letters?

If you will be sharing the same surname, in is a more contemporary approach to have Her-Surname-His.  Some couples prefer His-Surname-Hers.  If names are to be hyphenated, we can give you recommendations based on the first letters of your names if you email a request to info@chateauemb.com .  It is truly your preference, however, and what type of item you are having monogrammed.  If it is a set of sheets, usually the bride with have her new monogram on one pillow case, the groom’s monogram on a second pillow case, with a wedding monogram on the flat sheet fold down.

Can you monogram on any type of fabric?

In general, yes, we have monogrammed successfully on man-made and natural fiber fabric, from sheers to wool mohair velvet. pashminas and polka-dot embroidered silks.  If the fabric you would like to use is particularly slick or light-weight, such as a shiny polyester blend fabric or lingerie-type silk, inner lining may be required to keep the embroidery laying smooth against the fabric and minimize pulling.  We can provide this lining or it can be shipped to us with your yardage.  We sometimes must add a surcharge for working with velvet as this fabric requires a different method for preparing the fabric for embroidery.

What do I need to do to prepare fabric (uncut yardage) to send for embroidery?

All yardage should be marked with right side of fabric and direction up the roll, or the face of the fabric and the top of the fabric marked.  Any yardage received without these markings are assumed to be rolled right side inside with the nap towards the outside edge on the bolt.  Chateau Embroideries and Design, LLC is not responsible if these markings are not included.
